How OddsGenie Rates Online Casinos

Every score on OddsGenie comes from real-money testing and a transparent 6-criterion weighted rubric. No casino pays for a higher rating, and our scoring formula doesn't change based on affiliate revenue.

The 6 criteria, weighted

Each casino we list is scored out of 10 across the six criteria below. The total weighted score is what appears on the casino card and at the top of every review.

  1. 25%

    Safety & Licensing

We only rate casinos with a current, verifiable license from AGCO, iGaming Ontario, the Malta Gaming Authority, Curaçao eGaming, the UK Gambling Commission, or another recognised regulator.

    What we check

    • License number cross-referenced against the regulator's public register
    • SSL/TLS certificate valid and up to date
    • Independent game-fairness audit (eCOGRA, GLI, iTech Labs) where applicable
    • Transparent dispute-resolution route disclosed
    • Responsible-gambling tools (deposit limits, self-exclusion, cool-off) available
  2. 20%

    Bonus Value

We do the wagering math. A 500% bonus with 60× wagering is mathematically worse than a 100% bonus with 25× wagering — and we show why.

    What we check

    • Match percentage and maximum bonus amount
    • Wagering requirement (lower is better — anything above 40× loses points)
    • Game contribution rules (slots usually 100%, table games often 5-10%)
    • Maximum cashout cap on bonus winnings
    • Expiry window and any hidden conditions
  3. 20%

    Payout Speed & Reliability

We submit a real withdrawal and track every step — from request to money landing in our account.

    What we check

    • Interac e-Transfer withdrawal time (target: same day after KYC)
    • Crypto withdrawal time (target: under 1 hour)
    • Card / bank-transfer withdrawal time (typical: 1-5 business days)
    • KYC verification friction (documents required, response time)
    • Pending-period and weekend-hold practices
  4. 15%

    Game Library Breadth

Number isn't everything — variety, RTP, and provider quality count.

    What we check

    • Total live game count (slots + tables + live dealer)
    • Number of major providers (NetEnt, Microgaming, Evolution, Pragmatic Play, Play'n GO, etc.)
    • Live dealer studio quality and table variety
    • Provider RTP transparency on slot pages
    • Mobile compatibility across the full library
  5. 10%

    Mobile UX

Most Canadian players play on phones. We test the actual mobile experience, not just whether the site loads.

    What we check

    • Sign-up flow completion on mobile in under 3 minutes
    • Deposit flow with Interac e-Transfer on mobile
    • Game launching and gameplay performance
    • Dedicated app availability (iOS / Android) and store ratings
    • Mobile customer-support access
  6. 10%

    Customer Support

When something goes wrong, support is what matters. We file at least three test queries.

    What we check

    • Live-chat response time (target: under 2 minutes during stated hours)
    • Email response time and quality (target: under 24 hours)
    • Phone support availability for Canadian players
    • Multilingual support (English + French for Quebec players)
    • Quality of escalation path for complex issues

What “real-money tested” actually means

Every casino we score is opened, funded, played, and cashed out by James Thornton, our Senior Casino Reviewer. The full test sequence:

  1. Open a real account using the standard sign-up flow Canadian players see.
  2. Deposit with at least two methods — typically Interac e-Transfer plus one card or wallet — and log every minute from deposit to balance arrival.
  3. Play a fixed sample of slots, table games, and live-dealer tables to test latency, variety, and bonus mechanics.
  4. Submit a withdrawal of equal value and document every KYC step, hold time, and final settlement time.
  5. File at least three customer-support queries across the available channels and time the responses.

How often we re-test

Every operator we list is re-checked when its welcome bonus changes, its license status changes, a major payment method is added or removed, or our Fact-Checker Rachel Doyle spots a discrepancy in the published T&Cs. The full ranking is reviewed monthly. The “Last updated” date at the top of every review reflects the most recent re-test of that operator.

Editorial independence

OddsGenie is funded by affiliate commissions when players sign up at a casino we recommend. Our scoring is independent of those commercial relationships. Specifically:

  • No casino can pay for a higher score or to be added to the ranking.
  • The scoring rubric on this page is the only formula used. It does not change based on commercial-affiliate terms.
  • When a casino is removed from our list — for licensing issues, payout problems, or unresolved player complaints — the removal is made regardless of commercial impact.
