Canadian Online Gambling Laws by Province

Online casino gambling in Canada is regulated province by province — so what's available to you depends on where you live. Here's the regulator, legal age, and regulated platform for every province and territory.

The federal vs. provincial picture

Under Canada's Criminal Code, the provinces and territories are responsible for licensing and regulating gambling. That means online casino rules differ by province — Ontario runs an open, regulated private market, while most provinces offer a single government-run platform. Single-game sports betting has been legal across Canada since Bill C-218 came into force on August 27, 2021.

Many Canadians also play at offshore-licensed casinos. Where a province only offers a government platform, those offshore sites operate in a legal grey area — they aren't provincially licensed, so player protections vary. Always confirm a site's licence and your provincial rules before depositing.
